Help your students explore the key message of Dickens' A Christmas Carol with this creative introduction and pre-reading activity. Tackle the meaning of Christmas, the idea of generosity, charity, and kindness before reading the novel. A perfect introduction to A Christmas Carol for any GCSE English Literature classroom.
This creative and engaging lesson involves each of your students receiving a Christmas gift envelope! Inside are 3 activities that will challenge them to explore and discuss the true meaning of Christmas.
Inside this pack you will find:
7 Christmas gift envelope templates (1 black and white and 6 color) ready to cut and construct
4 pages with 24 question task cards, each containing a different question focused on the meaning of Christmas
2 pages with 24 Christmas sayings for your students to discuss and explain
1 template of 6 message slips for your students to write Christmas messages to their classmates
1 page of teacher instructions and information
This introduction lesson does require some printing and preparation. The teacher instructions page has tips on how you can reduce time needed to prepare this lesson. The main one being asking students to create these envelopes as 'gifts' for one another in the class. This preparation activity in itself is an excellent way to explore the meaning of Christmas!
